Volleyball

Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of six players each, compete to score points by sending a ball over a high net and into the opponent’s court. The game begins with a serve, where a player hits the ball from behind the baseline over the net. The opposing team must receive the ball and attempt to return it by hitting it, typically using three touches to set up an attack. Points are scored when the ball lands on the opponent’s side of the court, or if the opposing team fails to return the ball correctly.

The sport can be played both indoors and on outdoor sand courts, with variations such as beach volleyball featuring teams of two players. Volleyball is characterized by its fast-paced gameplay, strategic positioning, and the necessity for teamwork, as players must coordinate their movements and communication to effectively block, spike, and set the ball. It is governed by specific rules that dictate the scoring system, player rotation, and boundaries of play. Volleyball is popular worldwide and has various levels of competition, including recreational play, school leagues, and professional tournaments, notably including the Olympic Games.
